Night Out

Australia, 1989 (MIFF 1990, Fiction)

Director: Lawrence Johnston

In this hard-edged film, a homosexual is savagely bashed in a public toilet block and taken for a nightmarish car ride by four hoons "out for a good time" while his lover is interstate.

Lawrence Johnston's Night Out explores a range of pertinent issues including homosexual assaults and homophobia in an AIDS fearing age, the nature and consequences of promiscuity and the idea of commitment between two individuals in any longstanding relationship.
