“An energetic thumb-nosing fossil of 60s fragmentation, cinematic upset, and sub-Marxist yowlings.” - Village Voice

This rarely seen, unorthodox retelling of Dostoevsky's The Double is Bernardo Bertolucchi at his most Godard-esque. Decidedly absurdist and anti-establishment - and fashioned in the ‘grooviness' of the era - the non-linear storyline tells of a repressed student who cooks up an alter ego to spout his more radical leanings.

Not coincidentally, Partner was produced at the time of the May 1968 uprising that gave birth to the Cannes Film Festival Directors' Fortnight. It serves as a madcap grandstand from which Bertolucci takes freewheeling potshots at all manner of political ideology.

Features an unbridled performance from Pierre Clémenti, and an original score by Ennio Morricone.
