Tom is a boy on the verge of adulthood. Living a protected life with his parents and sister, he rebels against his father's plan to sell off the marshlands they own. His family's tradition has been to hunt ducks in the marshes and his grandfather is still living a solitary life operating a duck-breeding farm within the marsh.
Conflicts arise when it is proposed to drain the marshes and build a factory there and these conflicts are exacerbated by approaching manhood, the threat of his close sister leaving to marry the new owner and his father's demanding nature and intolerance.
Well acted and quite stunningly photographed, Tiro is an absorbing film that confirms Jacob Biji's talent which Melbourne festival goers first saw in his feature Scrim.
