Art, life, myth and landscape are skillfully blended in this fine film portrait of Aboriginal artist Jimmy Pike. Using a journey as narrative device and metaphor, the film takes us into the West Australian desert and offers a glimpse of the natural and spiritual world from which Pike draws his inspiration. It also tells of Pike's extraordinary personal journey from a tribal childhood through urban despair and prison to the discovery of his unique creative vision. The vitality of the artist and his images, which fuse Aboriginal tradition with modern forms and colours, is abundantly conveyed in this film. A richly textured soundtrack, including Aboriginal music, natural sound and narration, written by Pike's wife, Pat and read by actor Bob Maza, complements the imagery.
