The MIFF shorts weekend concludes on Sunday 1 August with the MIFF Shorts Awards, where the best shorts of the Festival will be announced and screened at Greater Union Cinemas.

MIFF features one of the most highly regarded short film competitions in the southern hemiphere - one of the few in which the winners have the opportunity to be nominated for the Academy Awards.

Entrants in the MIFF shorts competition are competing for the following prizes:

City of Melbourne Grand Prix for Best MIFF Short
$7000

Film Victoria Erwin Rado Award for Best Australian Short Film
$5000

Melbourne Airport Award for Emerging Australian Filmmaker
$5000 + an airfare to the Berlinale 2011

Cinema Nova Award for Best Fiction Short Film
$3000

Melbourne International Film Festival Award for Best Animation Short Film
$3000

Melbourne International FIlm Festival Award for Best Documentary Short Film
$3000
