Even the cows are leaving.



The only thing that really sets the tiny hamlet of Osadné in Slovakia apart is a fading statue of Andy Warhol (his parents were born there). The 216 inhabitants are mostly elderly Rusyns, a Slavic minority, and they are dwindling at a rapid rate. In the last five years the local Orthodox priest has buried 50 and presided over just two births.



In this subtle documentary director Mark Skopi follows six village leaders, including the priest and long-standing mayor, from this eastern-most outpost of the European Union to the European parliament in Brussels.



Charming and witty, Osadné was winner of the Best Documentary Prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
