Philip is a rising star of the New York literary scene, on the verge of publishing his second novel. He is also a spectacular misanthrope who treats everyone around him terribly. When he gets wind of a negative review, he immediately cancels his press tour, abandons his girlfriend and absconds to the house of his writing idol to focus on his favourite subject: himself.
Shooting on super-16mm for a burnished, literary texture, director Alex Ross Perry (who can be seen in front of the camera in La última película, also screening in this year's festival) creates a fascinating portrait of a destructive, self-obsessed artist, brought hilariously to life by Jason Schwartzman in one of his best performances in years. Elisabeth Moss, Jonathan Pryce and Krysten Ritter are equally impressive in their supporting roles.
