"In a world... where female writers are scarce and female writer/directors even more so, Lake Bell has done both with panache in her feature debut ... a meta-commentary on the persistent and open sexism in Hollywood. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s funny to boot." – The Playlist

Winner of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award, Lake Bell’s directorial debut is a charismatic absurdist comedy about voice-over artists. Taking its name from Don LaFontaine’s momentous voice-over line now a cliché of epic movie trailers, In a World… finds Bell also writing, co-producing and starring, as vocal coach Carol Solomon, who has dreams of entering the voice-over business dominated by her brazenly selfish father Sam – and by men, in general.

With a supporting and cameo cast that includes Geena Davis, Nick Offerman, Eva Longoria, Fred Melamed (a delight as the unlikable Sam) and comedians Tig Notaro and Demetri Martin, Bell delivers an endearing charmer about family, feminism and show business, full of snappy dialogue and hysterical but very real moments.

"In a World… is pretty much a perfect movie, chock full of fun, endless laughter, realistic love and that all-important magical movie ingredient: originality." – Film.com
