MIFF is currently recruiting a casual Front of House (FOH) team of Venue Coordinators and Ushers for the 71st edition of the Melbourne International Film Festival, taking place on 3–20 August 2023. Based in the Melbourne CBD, MIFF runs for 18 days with an extensive and prestigious program of contemporary world cinema, Australian film, red-carpet moments, live performances and unique MIFF experiences.

MIFF’s FOH staff oversee the safe and enjoyable experience of audiences at all festival venues, provide excellent customer service, and ensure that all screenings and events run efficiently to schedule.

  • Venue Coordinators are expected to have experience managing staff and/or volunteers, be able to work autonomously and take initiative to make operational decisions, and be well-versed in FOH processes.
  • Ushers will be managed by a Venue Coordinator and are expected to work as part of a team, manage a team of volunteers and be capable of running a cinema space with limited supervision.

Applicants must be aged 18 years or over and provide proof of at least two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine or valid medical exemption.

Applicants must have flexible availability during the festival period of 3–20 August. Weekend and evening availability is important; however, shifts will be a mix of daytime and evening weekday and weekend hours, as the festival will be operational seven days a week. Staff will also be required to attend a compulsory general training on Monday 31 July as well as venue-specific training on either Tuesday 1 August or Wednesday 2 August. These trainings will be held in the afternoon and/or evening.

Applicants must be based in Melbourne for the duration of the festival dates. International applicants must attach proof of full working rights in Australia as part of the application form for their application to be considered.
