Programming Intern

MIFF is looking for an enthusiastic and organised Intern to support the Programming team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain an understanding of the operations of a major Melbourne cultural event, and gain a range of practical skills useful to a career in a film festival setting. This is an unpaid voluntary position.

Internship Duration: January – June 2019
Internship Time Commitment: 1 day a week January-March, 2 days a week March - June

Skills Development Opportunities

The role will give you invaluable experience and understanding in the area of film festival programming and delivery. Some tasks you will asked to undertake:

  • Supporting the Programming team in logging and tracking information and films considered for the 2019 program

  • Liaising with filmmakers, sales agents and distributors about supporting materials for confirmed films

  • Updating and maintain MIFF’s File Maker database and assist in administering film information

  • Collating of materials related to selected films (trailers, images, press-kits)

  • Blog writing

  • Sourcing data online related to selected films

  • Other general support to the Programming team as required.

Selection Criteria

  • This position is open to students from tertiary level academic institutions that are required to complete a placement as part of their course.

  • Attention to detail, strong written and communication skills will be highly regarded

  • Effective time management skills

  • Ability to take the initiative and complete tasks with minimal supervision

  • A strong understanding of confidentiality requirements

Marketing and Communications Manager

The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is looking for a dynamic and creative Marketing and Communications Manager to join the team in its CBD office to lead the marketing campaign for the Festival’s 68th edition in August 2019.

This is a rare opportunity to join Australia’s largest and oldest film festival in a pivotal role responsible for planning and delivering a marketing strategy that delivers a high-visibility, high-quality festival campaign that reflects MIFF’s artistic and curatorial ambitions, achieves MIFF’s attendance, box office and membership targets, and creates content and collateral to drive audience engagement year-round.

The successful applicant will be a highly creative, self-motivated and experienced marketing manager with knowledge of the Australian cultural sector, strong communication and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to be both strategic and hands-on in an extremely busy work environment.

Salary: $75,000-$80,000 plus superannuation (commensurate on experience)
